Letters to remind myself

What I’ve learned so far:

1. That as much as it is important to think ahead and plan for the future, it is equally important to take care of the details of today. I have spent so much time existing in realm that is so focused on future accomplishments and goals both material and spiritual that I have realized my constant ambition is in someway counter productive. The details of each daily task, done well, make up a successful tomorrow.

2. Being in Love, is never doubting your partner. I realized I was truly in love when I felt ashamed for doubting my partner and decided to make a conscious effort to never hold such ill placed thoughts again. Doubt can manifest in many ways, but what it comes down to is if you really love someone, how can you not have anything but pure faith in them. Regardless if you feel your needs are met or not, that would be separate issue. True love is unconditional and exists for itself.

3. The person who gives you the freedom to appreciate everything is a gift like no other. I’ve seen so many, and am ashamed to admit have practiced, examples of oppression. Oppression is anything that stifles growth and creativity. It is so easy to fall into the pattern of confusing wisdom, knowledge and experience with the heavy hand of oppression. Nurturing is underrated.

4. Jealousy is tough. It’s hard not to be possessive about the attentions and affections of the ones you love, but it is only because of this competitive streak that makes it so painful. Relax, because there is no competition. Ultimately we are all one.

5. As much difficulty that comes from the fact that I feel I’ve grown too old to act a certain way, or do certain things, it is as equally difficult to get over the feeling that I’m too young to have a respected opinion.

6. Faith and habit are intrinsically related. But it in an age where fetishism of the material goods is dominant, faith is so easily found commercially and habit replaces beliefs. It’s tricky to not get them confused.

i'm sure I've learned more, but that's all I have time for today... back to the daily details.......................
